USF came into last night’s game against LMU looking to avoid a trap game. They had a big game against BYU, and needed to not look past a scrappy LMU team. And look ahead they did not. They dominated the first half, and rode a strong defense effort to a 24 point win.
In the first 10 minutes, it was a close game. The Dons shots were not falling, and the Lions were doing enough on offense to keep in close. Then the Dons blew the game open. They went on a 21-2 run, sparked by turnovers and great shooting. Zane Meeks and Julian Rishwain both made multiple threes during the run. After the game Coach Todd Golden said “I consider those 2 along with Josh [Kunen] starters,” and lauded their performance. The Dons forced 17 turnovers in the first half, and capitalized.
Overall the Dons got a strong performance from everyone. Star guard Jamaree Bouyea had 22 points on 11 shots, Khalil Shabazz had 17, and Meeks and Rishwain had 27 combined. The Dons will now play BYU in a game that will have major WCC implications.
